Did you know that Jesus told twin stories about a margarita and a thesaurus?

Seriously. Really. You can read it for yourself in Matthew 13.

I discovered this because yesterday morning I was doing some reading of the Greek New Testament on some subject or other, and the words jumped out at me. The words were not in my vocabulary list when I studied Greek all those years ago.

Margarita means ‘pearl’. I guess the drink is named after this valuable mineral. (Is it a mineral?) Thesaurus means ‘treasure’, which makes sense, because a ‘thesaurus’ is a ‘treasury of words’.

So I have made a decision that for the forseeable, I will be banning myself from reading the English New Testament, and it’s all Greek from here on on. I have chosen the Gospel of Luke to work my way through, and I’m looking forward to recording my thoughts in posts.
