Breaking Free – Notes re Notre Dame Uni and UAC

I made two phone calls to Notre Dame (Prospective students) and to UAC, to engineer the plot:

Notre Dame Uni

Currently Law students need an ATAR of 75.4 to get into Law. Academic fees are $16992 per year and can be covered by HECS/HELP for national students.

There are some clubs on campus. The Student Association is known as SAUNDERS and there are a lot of associations attached: the law society, business society, educaiton, allied health society, footsal, soccer, netball.

Some students may be friends with students from other unis, but there is currently no rivalry. Football happens in a Sydney University facility. Some students may be friends/housemates with others.

Classes are 9 – 5 – There are no night classes for law. Sometimes sutdents stay behind to study in library or student areas.

There are no residences that are run by the universty.

UAC

I talked to Wendy late on Friday afternoon. She understood the project and was very useful.

The upshot of the conversation was this:

Em can get HECS/HELP for her academic fees. This would be no problem. The places are allocated to the universities.

The point shere she finds herself in trouble is that she has applied for a “JACOLS” (Joseph and Anne Cost of Living Scholarship) and has been accepted, contingent to uploading her acceptsance of an independent rate of Austudy.

Because her mother was paying her under the table, she can’t prove income, so she can’t get the JALS, so she has to pay for her own rent and food and stuff.

There are also some student amenity fees of a few hundred dollars that can be paid up front or deferred.
